Francis Poole

Francis Poole was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.  He has lived in Florida, California, Kentucky, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and Delaware.  After serving in the Navy as a combat aircrewman in the 1960s, he made several trips to Europe and Morocco.  In 1974 he received a fellowship to the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire.  His poetry has appeared in Poet Lore, Poetry East, Southern Poetry Review, Shattered Wig Review, Pearl, Rolling Stone, Lost and Found Times, Philadelphia Poets, and the New York Quarterly.  He spent six years living abroad in Morocco and Portugal where he taught at the American School of Tangier and  the Universidade de Evora, Portugal.  In 1977 he began BLADES, a tiny magazine of experimental writing and art.BLADES ended publication in 2011 with issue #50.  He coauthored Break Up My Water with Blaster Al Ackerman in 2011 and published Everybody Comes to Dean’s: Dean’s Bar, Tangier in 2012. He retired in 2017 from his academic position as a film/video archivist and librarian at the University of Delaware but continues to publish Blades magazine.
